Hand Quilting with Judy Doenias

Session: 1

This is chance to learn or practice to improve the technique used to produce the 
beautiful, even hand quilting  stitches you crave.  Learn about basting, thimbles, 
needles, threads and quilting patterns while you begin a small whole cloth project or 
complete one of your own unfinished projects.

Materials you will need:

• Fabric:  Cut two pieces of cotton fabric no smaller than 12”.  The one for the front 
  should be white, cream or light colored.  The back can be anything.  If you have  a unfinished top or already started to quilt one, you can use that
• Quilting hoop.  Judy likes q-snaps but any hand quilting hoop will do
• Quilting needles are short and to make neat small stitches you can use anything from an 8 to a 12.  The higher the number, the skinnier the needle.  
• Thread:  50 weight cotton thread. White, black or any color
• Thermore quilting batting 

If you have quilting templates for drawing designs on your fabric, bring them.  Judy will 
have some for you to use if you wish. To draw a design on your fabric, you will need a 
pencil or marker that can be washed out of your fabric or disappears
