Kids Sewing Camp

We are excited to offer a 3 day camp for children where they will learn to sew a different fun project each day of the camp while learning the following sewing skills:

• Sewing zippers

• Sewing a channel and inserting a drawstring

• Cutting out patterns

• Learning to follow pattern instructions

Project fabrics, supplies, and the book "A Kids Guide to Sewing," will be included in the cost of the camp, but children should bring basic sewing supplies such as pins, scissors, marking pens, measuring tape and rulers. Children should also pack a snack and drink each day.

We will be using the book “A Kid’s Guide to Sewing” by Sophie Kerr, for two of the projects. 

Here is a brief description of each camp day’s project:

Day 1: Zippered pouches 

We will do a basic sewing machine introduction.Then students will choose their own fabrics to make a zippered bag. These bags are great to hold school supplies, toiletries or whatever they want! Students will be taught easy techniques for sewing zippers!

Supply List:

• 1/2 yard fabric

• 7 inch zipper

• 1/4 inch double sided fusible tape like Steam-A-Seam

• A zipper foot would be very useful, but is optional

Day 2: Drawstring Sleepover Bag 

Students will choose their own fabric to make this versatile bag that can be used for the beach, sleepovers or even for school!

Supply List:

• 3/4 yard of fabric for top of bag

• 1/2 yard of fabric for bottom of bag and pocket

• 8 inch zipper

• A zipper foot would be very useful, but is optional

• 1 1/2 yards of cord for drawstring

• 1/4 inch Steam-A-Seam

Day 3: Lounge pants

Students will choose their own fabric to make elastic waist lounge shorts or pants. In this session, children will learn how to measure themselves, cut out and follow a pattern and also how to sew in an elastic waistband.

Supply List:

• 1 1/4 yard for shorts

• 2.5 yards for pants

• 1.5 inch wide Elastic roll
