You’ve taken our Quick Start Machine Sewing class and now you are ready to make your first sewing project! You will learn how to lay out the pattern on the fabric, then learn the techniques of cutting and pinning your pieces to prepare for sewing. You will use all of the sewing skills that you learned in quick start to sew your reversible tote bag together. If you have any questions about the class, please email catherine@sewright.com.

Materials needed to make the tote bag:

 3/4 yd of cotton canvas or medium weight denim fabric (45” or 60” wide) for the outside of the bag

1 yd of 44” wide cotton fabric for the inside of your bag

1 1/2 yd of 1” wide webbing for the handle

1 spool of all purpose thread

basic sewing tools (pins, seam ripper, tape measure)

fabric scissors or rotary cutter 

sewing machine in good working order, power cord and foot pedal (or you can use one of our class machines)

size 12 or 14 universal needle
