Beginner Basics - Sewing a Foldover Pouch with Catherine Petrosino



You’ve taken our Quick Start Machine Sewing class and are ready to make your first sewing project. With this adorable lined pouch project from the book “The Handmade Touch”, you will learn how to read cutting and sewing instructions when no pattern is included. You will learn how to draw out the pattern on the fabric using an acrylic ruler, then cutting and assembling the pieced to make the bag. Pick some fun fabric and join us for class! 

The book "That Handmade Touch," is required for the class.  We can order the book for you at a class discount.

 

Supplies needed to make one pouch (possibly two):

 

sewing machine in good working order / machine accessories / foot pedal & power cord
basic sewing tools - scissors, seam zipper, pins, etc.

 6” x 24” acrylic ruler

tailor’s chalk in a color that will show on your fabric

spool of all purpose thread

1 fat quarter of quilting cotton (18”h x 22”w or 1/2 yard) for the exterior of the pouch

1 fat quarter of quilting cotton (18” x 22”w or 1/4 yard) for the folded flap

1/2 yard of cotton canvas for the lining

1/2 yard of medium weight fusible interfacing (Pellon SF101)

1/3 yard of 1/8” wide ribbon

1 - 1” decorative button
