Beginner Basics - Sewing a Pillow Cover with Catherine Petrosino

You’ve taken our Quick Start Machine Sewing class and are ready to expand on your skills by sewing a decorative pillow cover. In this class you will learn how to sew a lapped zipper, how to overcast the edges, and the importance of using interfacing for decorative stitching. If you have any questions about the class, please contact catherine@sewright.com.

Supplies needed for class to make one pillow cover:

sewing machine in good working order / machine accessories / foot pedal & power cord

zipper foot for your machine
basic sewing tools - scissors, seam zipper, pins, etc.

spool of all purpose thread (can be a contrasting color for the decorative stitching)

1/2 yard of cotton fabric (I recommend a solid color so that the stitching will show)

1 yard of SF101 interfacing by Pellon (we sell it in the store)

14” regular nylon coil zipper

14” x 14” pillow form
