Beginner Basics
In this session, you will be creating a fun scrappy placemat. The technique involved in this skill building class is creating a scrappy free-form log cabin using the quilt-as-you-go method. After you construct the placemat, you will finish the edge with customized binding. Once you finish one, you will be able to make many more to create a one-of a kind quilt!

Are you ready to learn the basics of how to operate a sewing machine? You will learn the correct way to wind a bobbin, how to thread your machine and the proper way to operate the machine to keep from losing your thread. Once your machine is threaded, you will learn basic sewing techniques such as stitching a proper seam, pivoting and sewing curved edges. We will also discuss the basics of needles, thread and bobbins to set your sewing up for success. We will provide our classroom machines* and the supplies needed to practice your sewing skills. *We are only teaching this class on our classroom machines. If you own a machine, we recommend that you set up a private lesson with one of our staff members at Sew Right to properly use your machine.

Do you want to learn the basics of sewing or need a refresher because you haven’t sewn in a while? Bring your machine in to learn how to operate your sewing machine while you make a small pouch! If you don’t own a machine, you can use one of our class machines. What you will learn: the correct way to wind a bobbin how to thread your machine navigating the basic functions on your machine how to operate the machine whether it is mechanical or computerized basic cutting and pinning techniques basic sewing techniques (straight and curved seams and pivoting) the basics of needles, thread and bobbins to set your sewing up for success If you do not own a machine: Please let us know in the “notes” section at checkout that you would like to use one of our class machines. If you are bringing your own sewing machine: You must know that the machine is good working order. Older machines that have not been used in many years may need to go in for service before class (which can take up to a few weeks).

CLASS POLICY
Our classes and events require planning and preparation and often includes ordering materials and supplies, scheduling staff and teachers, and allocating space which is contingent on the total number of students who register for a class. When students request cancellations or reschedule at the last minute, it affects all of the above in addition to taking away a spot from someone who wanted to take the class.
In fairness to all of our customers we are unable to make exceptions to our policy, including for reasons of illness, travel, or work. If you are unable to attend a class at the last minute, consider offering the spot to a friend!
If you register for an event or class with a guest educator, your class fee is nonrefundable.
If you register for a private lesson, your class fee is nonrefundable.
