Everyday Best Quilt with Judy Doenias

Once in awhile a quilt jumps out of the pages of a book and demands to be made.  "Everyday Best" from Quilts With A Spin is just such a quilt.  Constructed by machine from bright scraps on foundation paper arcs with hand appliquéd centers, this project never stops being fun.  Participants must know how to use a sewing machine and a rotary cutter.  The book is no longer in print, but the pattern is available for purchase.

This class is about creating the medallions, as many as you would like.  Any border treatment that you may want to add will be discussed, but it will be your choice.

The pattern is available as a digital download from this website:

Requirements:
Fabric: Since this is a scrappy quilt, and to my mind the more the merrier, it's hard to estimate the amount of fabric necessary. I cut 4" strips of fabric from a multitude of floral and Japanese fabrics, separated them into light and dark piles and randomly picked strips to place around the arcs. Color was not an issue for me, but value (the lightness or darkness of the fabric) was. You may want to limit your color palette or the number of fabrics you use. You may even want to do the medallions in black and white. Anything will go and I bet every selection will be great if you achieve value contrast between the pieces. You can cut 4" strips from your fabrics or use scraps that are at least 4" in length and 3" in width and if you are willing, you can swap with other people in the class. The background of each square can be cut from four different 10" pieces of fabric, so fat quarters will work nicely. You don't need to decide on the background fabrics until the arcs are made, so just bring scraps to the first class. Other stuff: -The arcs are foundation pieced. Use your favorite paper: "Fundation", "Simple foundations", Sulky Paper Solvy or plain tracing paper. -Add-A-Quarter ruler 6" or 12" -postcard -rotary cutter and small mat to bring to class - Template plastic -See through ruler for tracing the arcs onto the paper and a pencil -White pencil or pen for marking dark fabrics -Thread to match the circles in the center of the medallions. These are appliqued on -Needle for hand applique -Paper scissors and fabric scissors (small embroidery scissors are preferred) -Seam ripper -Pins-thin shafted flower head pins work the best -Sewing machine in good working order or please call to reserve a sewing machine at Sew Right for use in the class -The pattern is available as a digital download from this website for $12: https://www.pieceocake.com/shop/Digital-Quilt-Patterns/27-Different-Piece-O-Cake-Digital-Patterns/p/Everyday-Best-Digital-Download-x31060039.htm
