Quilting

Does the thought of sewing curves give you anxiety? Don't fear the curve! Students will learn tips and tricks to create a fantastic curve while making blocks needed for Picnic Petals designed by Sheri. Class includes step-by-step instructions and quilting tips. Sheri will also share her favorite tools and tips for staying organized. This is a good class for quilters who have never sewed curves or those who want to gain more experience. By the end of the workshop, most students will have completed one Center Block and one Border Block. Each registered student needs to purchase the Picnic Petals quilt pattern ($12) PRIOR to class in order to complete prep work, including fabric selection. OPTIONAL Picnic Petals Acrylic Template set (makes cutting quicker and more efficient plus you don?t need to make your own templates) is available.

This fun quilt features flowers created using pieced and machine appliqu? techniques. Scrap it up using 1/4 yard fabric selections. The flower head is a variation of the Dresden Plate wedge - simple enough for beginners and is appliqued onto the background rectangle using monofilament or matching thread. The leaf blocks are pieced by machine with the stems being machine appliqued. The book, "Quilts from Tilda's Studio," ($24.95) with pattern is required and can be purchased at Sew Right. The templates for Dresden Flower will be supplied by instructor. Class Fee: $225, plus the book The Full quilt measures 55" x 70"

The Dear Jane Journey continues with another series of classes specially designed to help you finish the quilt. We?ll focus on the border triangles and corner kites, and review the techniques you can use to create them. In some cases, you might use several techniques in the same triangle! If you?re not at that point yet, you can use the sessions for inspiration, support, and to answer any other technical questions you may have about sewing the rest of the blocks, or assembling your quilt. You can also join if you have a Dear Jane quilt in progress (maybe from a long time ago?) and need that extra push to get back to work. Guaranteed inspiration and lots of support! The original quilt was made by Jane Stickle in 1863 without a corresponding pattern. Brenda Papadakis, the author of the Dear Jane books brought the quilt to life by drafting the blocks and publishing the book. With the recent 25th Anniversary of the book, "Janiacs," as we call Dear Jane fanatics came out the woodwork to share their love/hate of the project and new quilters were exposed to the meticulous pattern as well. The beauty of the quilt is not only in the blocks itself but the layout and the ability to play with print and color. Join Diane on the Dear Jane journey. She has taught this project for more than 20 years and is a true Janiac. Diane will make this an enjoyable and fun process!
